Do you want to try something new at our University? When your friends were browsing social media, you preferred to create development projects? Are you familiar with sustainable development and a responsible approach to business? We will teach you everything at the Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences.
Responding to the newly emerging needs of our society, together with the Wrocław Uniwersity of Science and Technology we have created a new study programme in BIOECONOMY. During your degree you will not only gain knowledge in the field of bioeconomy, which is shaping a new labour market, you will also learn how to implement it in practice. Our lecturers will teach you everything there is to know about bioeconomy. You will have the opportunity to further develop your practical skills after your sixth semester, during 4 weeks of industrial practice in production plants, institutions and laboratories involved in the bioindustry. Additionally, the program features semester projects directly connected to the needs of the industry. The current trends related to the use of sustainable solutions in business require new advanced knowledge and specialized personnel for this market.

Choose BIOECONOMY, learn specialized knowledge and see for yourself that this choice will make new career paths wide open to you!

Programme structure

I year

During the first year of study, the student learns general subjects such as: economics, chemistry, mathematics, and statistics. The curriculum covers introduction to BIOECONOMY, principles of bioeconomy, biorenewable systems, and the fundamentals of engineering drawing. In addition, you will learn programming principles that will allow you to familiarize yourself with the basics of Python programming.

II year

The second year of studies is a further exploration of knowledge in the field of basic subjects such as microbiology, but also an introduction to specialist subjects. You will learn what are the new trends in bioscience.
Bioorganic chemistry, during which you will have the opportunity to analyze the material by carrying out chemical reactions for organic compounds.
Bioproducts processing, during which you will learn the basic techniques and methods of food and biomass processing, the impact of processing on the quality of products, as well as process design and equipment selection.

III year

The third year of studies is a further expansion of general knowledge in BIOECONOMY. You will learn about new biomaterials and how to use them to improve the quality of human life and the condition of the natural environment. In addition, you will have the opportunity to learn about the methods and principles of operation of artificial intelligence, which is increasingly appearing in today’s world. In additional subjects such as sustainable cities, you will learn about development activities that can be applied in city management.

The last semester of studies is devoted mainly to the preparation of an engineering thesis. There are also specialized subjects such as sustainable water management, quality management and auditing, logistics, and environmental data analysis.

Career opportunities

A BIOECONOMY graduate is prepared for the current demand on the labor market. During the studies, the student has gained the necessary knowledge to establish and run companies and start-ups, and to work in the bio-industry sector, biorefineries, in analytical, research and diagnostic laboratories, research and development centers, non-governmental organizations dealing with bioeconomy, and in enterprises involved in the production, storage, transport and distribution of bioproducts.

The graduate knows the techniques of graphic and computer design and uses GIS tools used in bioeconomy. They have the ability to select materials and devices suitable for technologies employed in bioeconomy.
